All characters must be approved by the staff prior to play. Below are our character creation rules.
The Character Sheet
Our character sheet is a TXT file that you should modify and change to fit your character. Please download the character sheet, create your character then send it as TXT file attachment to approvals@sanguinus.org. Please use only a TXT attachment - not a DOC, RTF or any other type of file.
Templates
Our character creation system is not very different from the one found in the core Vampire rulebook. But we do use a template system, to give us a believable mix of Neonates, Ancilla and Elder characters.
If you are making your first character with us, it will be a Neonate. No matter what your previous experience with the game, we prefer all our new players to start out as neonates so they can get a feel for our style of play and we can get to know them better. The Ancilla template is restricted to trusted and experienced players who have been with the game for a while and the Storytellers are familiar with. Chances to play Elder characters are offered by the Storytelling staff.
Templates specify your starting spreads of attributes, abilities, backgrounds, etc. They also give you a handful of no-cost abilities, backgrounds and lores. For instance, we assume your character's sire was not a complete moron, and give Neonates a single dot in Camarilla Lore, Clan Lore and Kindred Lore.
Creation Guidelines
- No ability may be raised above 3 before Freebies are spent. Only Freebies can raise an ability above 3.
- Initial Discipline dots must be used on in-clan disciplines, and no disciplines can be raised above 3 at character creation. Out-of-clan discipline purchases aren’t commonly approved.
- Any Ability or Attribute that has 4 or more dots may have a specialty at no cost. If you have a specialty in a trait, you may reroll 10s on dice rolls. Be sure to include your specialties before submitting your character sheet.
- Up to 3 points may be spent on Influences during creation. Individual Influences may not exceed 1 at creation.
- Havens (or, more precisely, their locations) may not exceed a character's resources score. A character may have multiple havens, but the combined number of "Minimum Resources Required for Haven" for all havens must be lesser than or equal to the character's resources score.
Rarity
Various character traits are labeled as Common, Uncommon, and Banned.
- Common: This trait will most likely be approved, so feel free to make a character with this without consulting the staff first. However, approval is never guaranteed.
- Uncommon: Please consult a Storyteller before making a character with this attribute. Stipulations and restrictions may apply, and the staff prefers to consult with players before they try to make this type of character. For various reasons, this type of character may simply not be approved at this time or for certain players.
- Banned: NPCs only, if they exist at all.
Anything marked with an asterisk (*) may be limited to population restraints, so please check before making a character with any such trait to see if simply too many are around to consider allowing another.
Please keep in mind that this is a 2nd Edition setting, so many things simply do not exist, e.g. Harbingers of Skulls.
