A Soldiers Lament

If I had my way, if I had my way, if I had my way

I'd burn this whole building down

Delilah was a woman, she was fine and fair
She had good looks, and coal black hair
Delilah, she can ground on Samsons mind
When he saw this woman, she looked so fine
Delilah she climbed up on Samsons knee
Said tell me where your strength lies,
If you please
Then she spoke so kind and she talked so fair
Til Samson said, Delilah, cut off my hair!

If I had my way, if I had my way, if I had my way
I'd burn this whole building down

People read about old Samson
As far back as his birth
He was the strongest man that ever lived on earth
One day while Samsons walking, walking along,
Looked down on the ground and saw an old jawbone
And he stretched out his arms
and his chains broke like thread
When he got to move, ten thousand men was dead

If I had my way, if I had my way, if I had my way
I'd burn this whole building down
If I had my way, if I had my way,if I had my way,
I'd burn this whole building down

Well, Samson and the lion got entwined in a fight
And Samson he jumped up
and took on the lions might
You wont know just how a lion kill a man with his paws
Well, Samson got his hands up round that lions jaws
And he ripped that beast and he killed him dead
And the bees laid honey in the lions' head

If I had my way, if I had my way, if I had my way,
I'd burn this whole building down
If I had my way, if I had my way, if I had my way,
I would burn this building down
If I had my way, if I had my way, if I had my way,

I'd burn this whole building down

His Collarbone broke with a sickening crunch, almost absently I lifted the baseball bat again and brought it down on the bastards knee again. The Bastard started yelling.

I smashed his face in. I shouldered the now bloody baseball bat and looked down at him with, I hope, kind eyes. "Mr. Riley doesnt like to be kept waiting" I sighed "Look what you made him do. We are not unreasonable you know. We do not demand much" for good measure I kicked his broken knee again. "But we do insist on punctuality." I looked at his knee and shoulder "This should both heal nicely" I kept my voice detached, after all I am a professional "And if you resume payment, we will see this entire unfortuneate incident as null and void" his whimpering was grinding on my nerves, but what can you do, the wincing, whining and begging is just part of the job. So while I was reminiscing,
I saw something out of the corner of my eyes, or at least I think I did. Lately I was a little distraced, it seems shadows were following me. I really need a vacation.

I forced myself to focus on the task at hand again. I smiled coldly "Very well, Mister Jonathan. I do hope you will meet your end of the bargain, then we dont have to meet again" So, with this last words I turned around and left the shop. His whimpering annoyed me, and I guess my pissed-off expression was part of the reason why people avoided me left and right. So I light up my cigar and went off into the shadows.

So here I was, trying to make an honest living. In the middle of the godforsaken desert, my Ranger brothers besides me. We were surrounded, again. Rangers lead the way, huh. I often wondered, if it was worth it? Leaving everything behind just to get a fresh start. I really hope so. It feels good to fighting for something again. I feel amongst brothers and people I can trust. The Mob never had that.

I will always place the mission first.
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.
