Prince Louis Alamuerte (born Louis Alamuerte-Navaron d'Gascony, Comte de Agorres) has ruled over New Corsica for over two hundred years. He has presided over times of peace and of chaos, and his name is mentioned with great respect and a healthy undertone of fear. He leaves most of the daily duties of his domain to his seneschal and the primogen council. For them, he has a simple rule - keep things from requiring his attention.
When Prince Alamuerte makes an appearance, one of two things has happened. One, the situation has collapsed to an extent that his heavy hand is required. Or two, it would be disrespectful for him to leave the matter to the ancillae of his city. Those who live under the Prince can go months without seeing him outside of court, but none doubt he has an eye on just about everything in the city.

Reputation and demeanor
Louis Alamuerte is the quintessential elder - cold and calculating. A strong adherent to Machiavelli's view on politics, his authority is often distant, while maintaining a cult of personality amongst his subjects as an eminently fair if harsh ruler. Loyal Camarilla members in the city know that if Louis Alamuerte punishes or kills someone, they deserved it somehow.
There are times when Prince Alamuerte seems devoid of emotion, and he is a very cold man not prone to emotional outbursts. His voice is calm, cool and calculating always, his face maintained as a mask of emotionless ivory, and even the smallest show of emotion means a true firestorm is raging beneath it. His speech is always fitting in with his station and his clan - polite, respectful and full of connotations and hidden meanings.
Life as a mortal
Family and heritage
Louis' noble lineage is that of the House of Navaron, a shrewd political family that was only French subjects for 100 years before Louis' birth. The family's unusual and exotic history was incredible for its day, and only lent to the romance and intrigue associated with their exploits.
The House of Navaron was originally based in the Kingdom of Navarre, now part of modern Spain, known for its Basque-speaking subjects. Descended from a combination of local nobility and Roman aristocracy, the family had been established in Navarre since the Dark Ages. The House became closely associated with the rise of Calvinism, the official religion of Navarre, and when King Henry of Navarre became the heir to the French throne, some of the Navaron lords lent their full support.
After a long political struggle due to his Protestant upbringing, King Henry became Henry IV of France and the first monarch of the French House of Bourbon, converting to Catholicism. In reward for their assistance, one branch of the House of Navaron was granted estates throughout southern France in Gascony and Aquitane. Known for their fierceness in battle and adopting a new coat of arms that included a death's head and the motto 'Memento Mori' (trans. Remember that you die), this division become known as House Alamuerte-Navaron d'Gascony, and established itself as French subjects c. 1595. The line continued to have ties to the Kingdoms of Spain, Aragon and Navarre, intermarrying across these borders as well as with French subjects.
This French House of Navaron continued to be a proud and consistent ally of the House of Bourbon, and could be counted as a strong support for the monarchy in an important border of the Kingdom. By the time of Louis' birth, one year after Louis XIV of France's birth, it was already assumed one member of his family would attend to the family's business in the French royal court in Paris.
